Fire prevention programme

Medic Malawi is supporting a campaign to raise awareness of the danger of fire, to promote awareness on how to prevent burns injuries and giving first aid to burns victims in a series of visits to rural communities.

In the village of Kapinya women demonstrated through drama how accidents involving fire can be caused.

Particular attention was drawn to potential hazards posed by the traditional Chitenje wrappers which are the most common form of attire for women in Malawi and which can easily catch fire as the women work or stand near to an open fireplace. fire2

Mr Maphatso Banda welcomes villagers to the community awareness session.
